Lunch in Macon, Turkish
Dinner: Chablis
November
13, 2008 Chablis
This morning we decided to do a boulangerie crawl
(well, I decided and Jeff was game). The day was fairly nice
and we weren't going to drive anywhere. Chablis is not that
big, but there are 3 bakeries. First stop with an apple thing
and pain au chocolate. Didn't finish, 'cause I had others to
hit and I didn't love 'em. Next one we got and almond and chocolate
thing. Really good. Finished, but too full to have another.
Chablis is the very proud home of andouilette.
I will not elaborate, but our friends from Tucson are unhappily
familiar with this taste treat.
We went to get a coffee and warm a bit before
heading out to the vineyards. It is a quick walk out of town
to the premier and grand cru vineyards. The crews were out cutting
back the vines.
Lunch: Chablis After lunch we went to Laroche
to have a wine tasting and tour.
Dinner Les Hostellerie des Clos
November
14, 2008 Chablis, France to Redondo Beach
We headed to a bakery to fortify ourselves for
the slog to Paris. A whole mass of macarons in like 15 flavors
and some great bread. The drive was rainy and we had issues
finding the car return. Then there was the walk up the escalator
to the tram to get to the correct terminal. Yes, this is why
Jeff and I packed one bag of clothes, 'cause we knew we'd have
the 2 full case boxes of wine (that's 40lbs each, by the way).
It was a bit of a system shock coming home to the fires, but
we are glad to be back at the beach.
